Glycoconjugake(GC) of the parietal cells in the developing rat was investigated at light microsocopy level using nine biotinylated lectin (DBA, BBA, PNA, BSL-1, RCA-1, sWGA, UEA-1, Con A and LCA), Parietal cells reacted with all lectins used except UEA-1, and these affinities were demonstrated from 21 day fetal rat. However, affinity for Con A was observed from 3 day old rat.
The gradual decrease of DBA and SBA affinity to GC containg N-acetyl-D-galactosamine was observed during development, especially in DBA affinity. And a different PNA and BSL-1 affinity were observed from superficial to the deeper parietal cells in adult rat. The weaker PNA affinity to GC containing galactosyl-¥â-1, 3)-N-acetyl-D-galsctosamine was mainly detected in the mature parietal cells located lower part of fundic gland, but BSL-1 to GC eontaing ¥á-D-galactose appeared more intensive affinity in these cells.
